My mother found this cool rusty old piece of tin during her thrifting travels. I always thought the pattern on it was beautiful, and she kindly gave it to me. Yippeee! A cool piece of junk for my walls! I'm well on my way to escaping my wall display dulldrums.

I actually thought that in its natural, rusty state, it was beautiful and unique, but it was really rusty, flaking and dirty. It had to be helped. I could either try to frame it as is, or paint it. Sounds like a good excuse to try another glazing project!After:
I spray painted it white, then applied a burnt umber glaze over top. I did a few layers, as I really wanted the detailed pattern to show up.
I have yet to find a home for my piece of tin. I'm also not sure how I will mount it. I was thinking of either using a hidden hook on the back, or perhaps a short length of chain on either side, extending up to more decorative hooks. Any other ideas??? So I ask you, amazing, talented and creative bloggers, how would you display/hang a funky 'ole piece of tin? Do tell!!!

Love it now. The white with glaze really makes it beautiful. I am sure you will find a spot for it. Hey but if you don't. . . I have one Ha ha.
Big improvement. I would be giddy also, over a cool piece of junk with lots of detail. Now it's a pretty piece of art.
How big is it? If it were really big, you could use it as a headboard.
Other than that, I like your idea of putting a hook behind it.

Cool idea, but alas, it is only approx 18 inches long by 8 inches wide.

I would look for old weathered board, like a barn board, slightly larger than your tin piece about 20" x 10". Mount the tin on the board and hang it. The board acts as a frame of sorts.
I love funky old things, too. This looks great. Could you mount it with a plate hangers or those disc hangers?

I love old tin and actually found a shop yesterday with piles of it. His prices of $50 and up were too steep for me. Yours looks wonderful. Anyway you decide to hang it the piece will look fabulous.

Fabulous! I have an old piece of ceiling tile that is so rusted I wasn't sure what I would do with it. I think I will paint it after seeing your gorgeous creation.

Ooh I love it! It looks so pretty with the white paint and glaze. I think you should hang it up like a plate with a plate hanger or those disc hangers like another comment mentioned.

Awesome! I have a vintage French newsprint metal sheet (my father-in-law used to be a journalist here in Paris). The type is backwards, of course, but I've wondered about doing the same kind of thing as you did with this rusty piece. Do I dare? Where would I hang it? And what on earth would my hubby say??? ;) Your piece looks fabulous!

Great project! It could work mounting to wall as is - or - mount to a larger board (salvaged lumber?) and frame it to make it a larger feature and incorporate it as a leaning piece (with one or two other pieces) to make a backdrop for a vignette on a buffet, table, or chest.

I hung my old tin ceiling tiles with paneling nails. The tiles had nail holes anyway, and the paneling nails don't really show because they're white.
I really like how the glaze made your tin look.

I hung an old piece of tin ceiling , square piece, in our kitchen as a chandelier or ceiling medallion.
I too liked it in its original state but your finished tin shows off the detail beautifully. I have some tins that were wrapped around the edges of a frame and nailed. I have also just nailed it to the wall depending on the thickness. Great project. Thanks for sharing
I have 2 old tin panels that shape that I hung with ribbon on the wall above my stairway. I love re-purposing old things!
3M Command Strips actually come in plastic velcro-like strips- I like them because you can rearrange a little on the velcro. (I can never seem to hang things in exactly the right place!) :)

Ok, love it! How about mounting on a textured black fabric covered (velvet, linen, suede, etc.) board and framed. Make it VERY IMPORTANT looking.

That is so cute! I wonder what you ended up doing with this piece of tin. I have some tin too. I actually made a shelf and used the tin as the backing for the shelf. Mine is black. I think yours would be really cool if you put it on a piece of would slightly larger than your piece of tin. You could frame it with trim and even leave a few inches either on the top or bottom and use it as a decorative coat hanger with some cool vintage looking hooks. It could even be used for a towel holder in a bathroom.
