My Little Girl's Antique Bed Frame

When searching for a big girl bed for my daughter, I was dismayed at the choices out there. I wanted a unique, quality piece. While driving by an antique shop, I saw a pretty bed frame out front. Could this be the one? I was concerned her double sized mattress wouldn't fit, as many old cast iron beds were actually a 3/4 size...not quite a double, but larger than a single. This bed was actually a double. We bought it for $100, and had it sandblasted and spray painted, all for the cost of a case of beer, thanks to a few connections.

My goal is to create a pretty little girls room, but not with a cliche theme that she'll quickly outgrow (no Dora, Hannah Montana, Disney Princesses or Tink, please). I will add 'little girl charm' with accessories that can be easily changed as she grows, but keep the main pieces in the room ageless. The antique bed will be accompanied by this furniture set that I've been refinishing (happy to report that progress is being made!)

I bought this duvet from Serena & Lily (love them!) and bought some yardage of this fabric for either roman blinds, or shams. My mom found this sweet vintage bed skirt. I haven't finished converting Madelyn's room to her big girl room, and will probably halt this project due to our upcoming move, but I look forward to creating a room fit for a princess in our next home!

A lovely bed - we steer clear of all the "commercial" bedspreads too! This will last your little girl a long time and never go out of fashion.

Awwwwwww, that looks like my grandma's bed. I always loved laying on that bed. My cousin got the bed but I did get the featherbed mattress. Such lovely memories. You did a great job with yours. It turned out just beautiful.

Very cute bed. I have added one in the last year or so to my daughter's room. One way I let the kids have there "kid" bedding fix was I would buy them a pillowcase of the latest movie or whomever. They were excited to have it and I was glad not to have an entire room of it.

I grew up with white iron beds (with brass touches) and just loved them. I have recently purchased a queen white iron bed for my master bedroom and get many compliments on it. They are just so sweet. I love yours ....so delicate and sweet!
