My favorite room

We are still busy with family, food and festivities! We have had a wonderful Christmas and look forward to more celebrations for New Years. I sure hope you all have had a most wonderful holiday so far, and I'll be back with some fun posts next week. In the meantime, I am honoured to be sharing my favorite room over at Savvy Southern Style. Can you guess which room I chose? See you next week when I show you my mudroom and my junk gifts of 2012-my husband and mom found some amazing things!! Until then, have a very Happy New Years! Ps I'm writing this on my cell phone as we are away visiting family. As a result this post is a bit wonky!

Greatness in the Great Room

I'm afraid I wasn't able to wrap up my Christmas posts as I had hoped.

The entire family came down with a stomach bug, and I was completely bed ridden for days. NOT FUN!! I couldn't even stomach it to look at the computer and read my favorite blogs-it was tragic!

Anyhow, we're back and healthy (for the most part) but super busy on these last few days before Christmas. We are entertaining, eating, baking, cooking, eating, skating, sledding, eating, doing puzzles, watching movies, eating.....

I AM super excited (I mean, really, over the moon excited) to be working on a great, Great room project with this designer/blogger. More details to come very early in the New Year. It's my Christmas present to myself!

We also have many more projects in the works for the New Year so the ole blog should be busy with the before and afters =)

Until then, I'd like to wish you and your families, the very Merriest Christmas, and most wonderful New Year.

From our family to yours.....

Our Christmas Home Tour

Welcome to our home at Christmas.

Hurry in, the temperatures are c-o-l-d outside, where the frost and snow is plentiful.

Here in Alberta, Canada, we are almost assured a white Christmas.

When you enter our home, you'll be greeted by a cozy fire, and the living room decked out in it's Christmas best.

The large tree in the living room is traditionally decorated, with treasured ornaments collected over many years.

Each year we add a few more ornaments to it.

I love to use natural elements throughout such as pinecones, feathers, and garlands.

Paperwhites are a must each and every year.

I also love to decorate with handmade finds, such as these glittered snowballs, vintage elements, such as this silver bowl, and a lot of fresh greens.

In our kitchen, you'll find a tiered tray, filled with fruit and nuts.....

Cedar boughs a top of the cabinets......

And transferware creating a backdrop for the Fitz and Floyd Santas.

This is the first year we have had this flocked Christmas tree which is in our family room. I adore the flocked branches, and romantic decor.

Hydranges and handmade silhouettes adorn the tree.

Care for a warm drink? In the dining room, you'll find everything you need for a cup of hot cocoa, or apple cider, if you prefer.

Of course, the sunroom is also decorated for the season.

Thank you for taking this tour of our holiday home! May this Christmas be your merriest yet!

A Frosty Welcome

I assure you, the only frosty welcome you'll receive is at the front porch. Once inside, it's warm and cozy, with the fire roaring and the carols carolling.

My front porch decor is much the same as last year, but I wanted to share with you these pictures taken on a particularly frosty morning.

The frost is quite beautiful.

You can see last years non-frosty entry here.

I'll be back soon to share our main Christmas tree with you!

Mudroom Makeover {A Sneak Peek}

A non-Christmas related post ~ can you believe it?

Don't worry, though, I have plenty more Christmas goodness to show you.

Today, I wanted to share a sneak peek of a project we've been working on for the past few weeks.

I'm afraid it's only a sneak peek for 2 reasons:

1. My regular camera lens on my 'good' camera broke (again) so I will need to wait until I can take better photos. I had to take these with the telephoto lens, which proved difficult in a small space!

2. I am waiting on a few finishing touches such as pillows, shelf decor and a window treatment that will be perfection in this space. The store that carries these curtains has yet to open in Canada {hint: starts with" T" and ends in "arget" and is coming this spring!}

Enough chatting: here are some close ups of the mudroom:

I'll show you all the details, sources etc when I do the full reveal =)

Have a very Merry day!

Our Flocked Christmas Tree

This is the first year we've had a flocked tree. I am in love. We bought it half price after Christmas last year. I love the natural shape of the branches.

The tree topper is 2 peacock ornaments and a dried hydrangea:

I didn't have any ornaments for this tree, so I made some (see my silhouette tutorial here), used dried hydrangeas which I already had on hand, and bought a few silk pointsettia flowers in blues and golds. I also used some extra wire heart ornaments from our main tree.

I made the ruffled tree skirt, which suits this tree perfectly.

The hydrangeas blend in with the tree for a subtle effect.

This tree is in our downstairs family room. Next I'll share our main tree in the living room, which is more traditionally decorated.
