Putting it to a vote

Choosing a baby name is such a personal decision. So, naturally, I'm asking my nearest and dearest bloggy friends for their input!

You see, with our other two girls, we had no trouble choosing a name. It came easily to us, and we just knew it was the right decision. This little one? Not so much.

We have narrowed it down to 3 names (so far). You may love them all, or hate them all (if you hate them, please don't tell me....I'm awfully sensitive with all these pregnancy hormones raging =).

We've asked friends and family and had everyone pick a different favorite. My hubby and I are leaning to one of them, but aren't quite convinced yet.

Howza bout a fun little survey? I may pick the one that is most popular, on the survey, or I may not. We may choose an entirely different name, if one comes to us, but I would sure love to see what you all think of our (so far) 3 finalists:

We tend to like more classic names, that aren't too strange, but also aren't too common.

Here's a bit of background on the 3 so far (in no particular order):

1. Ella
-love this name, and thought it was so pretty when I first heard it.
-hesitation: It's becoming quite popular, and we don't want 5 Ella's in her grade 1 class =)

2. Amelie
-we have always loved this name, and seriously considered it for our second daughter. It's unique and pretty without being too different.
-hesitation: Confusion with Emily (she'll always be correcting people).

3. Violet
-I like this name more than my hubby, but it's growing on him
-classic and pretty
-hesitation: I knew a Violet once, and she was nicknamed Violent Violet. Also, Vi for short reminds me of a name for someones great aunt.

There you have it. If given those 3 options, which is your favorite?
Oh, what fun! I look forward to seeing what you think =)

Darn it all, I wanted to put in one of those polls in this post, but I can't figure out how to do it, so if you could just put your 'vote' in the comments, then I'll tally them from there =)

Have a great Monday!

I don't know your last name (and I'm NOT asking that...) but I always tried to avoid having the last letter of the first name I chose be the same as the first letter of our last name because it's harder to pronounce the full name if they are. Hope you're following that!? :) That said, I like Ella or Violet. Obviously, your call!!

I vote for Ella. Have a niece that name and she is so sweet.....

I like Ella. Easy to say and spell.

Ella, I have always loved that name. I have a cousin who I am very close to named Mary Ella but has always gone by Ella. That's my vote.

Ella would be my pick out of your 3....

Hands down....Ella. My daughter's middle name is Ella and her name flows beautifully. She was named after her great-grandmother who was a graceful and elegant lady. Diane

I liked Ella at first but when I read you dif reasons for each..

Ella the fella came to No.

Amelie is gorgeously feminine and when the A is emphasized..I don't think she will correct too many. My daughter is Aubrey and even though some have called her Audrey..we just overlook it. I think the emphasis of the "A" for you will solve it.

I picture a pretty soft little girl with a sweet spirit with this name.

Best wishes..

Oh I love Ella. Of course here in my part of the world Amélie is a very common name so less appealing to me. Ella and Violet both just seem so lovely. Hmmmm.... kind of stuck on those two.

I will put my "vote" in for Ella, it is cute for when she is young and a pretty name for when she is older.

I vote for Violet! We have 2 Ella's on our street and they are both under the age of 2!

I really like Ella! So pretty and simple and sweet!

Oh how much fun!!! I love helping you with this. I vote for Ella. I agree with you about Amelie being too confused with Emily all the time. Violet is pretty, but I just really like the other name more. Another consideration is what middle name you'll choose and what her initials will end up being. I always try to look at the whole picture like that. Ha! Good luck with your decision.

Sounds like fun, of the three I would vote for Ella. Of course there are other considerations, last name, siblings names etc. My sister was sure there would not be any Connor's in 1993 when my nephew was born because she had not heard of the name before, problem was she didn't watch soap operas where there was apparently a popular character named Connor. My point, go with what you both truly love and the rest will work out.

I love the name Ella! :)

Well here I go adding to the mix...Ella is adorable. My second choice would be Violet. It is unique and old fashioned and would be different. When we were naming our second son, we picked choice My grandfathers nickname "Jack". You never hear that name and it meant something to us. Well don't you know it that year Matt Lauer went and named his kid that. We had 4 Jack's in the class last year!

Debbiedoo's said...[Reply to comment]

But for the son is a Jack through and through so we made the right choice and so will you:)

Violet for sure , Ella is cute but it reminds me of Emma a lovely name but over used .

I love Ella--and it just happens to be one of my Granddaughter's name! Her sister is Olivia and our other Granddaughter is Riley...(I know that is way more than you asked :) )

I love them all, but Ella is adorable...I can almost see her!!

For me it's Amelie... much more original. Such a pretty name!! :-)

I love all 3 of them! Leaning towards Ella Amelie. That sounds beautiful to me. If we had a girl last time, we liked Alivia for the middle name instead of the first b/c I was afraid it would be confused with Olivia. I have one child whom we always have to repeat his name. My youngest has a really popular name but it's kind of nice that it's easy for people to say and remember. All of your concerns are valid. When she is born, you'll probably look at her and just know what her name should be.

I'm the voice of dissent it seems...around my neck of the woods, Ella is everywhere- it is a very pretty name but I just feel like it's lost it's sparkle a bit as of late. I vote rich and romantic...I also think it sound the best with your last name- as much as I love Amelie too, Violet won out for this reason:)
Really though...they are all lovely names- you can't go wrong. Maybe take all three with you to the hospital and see what fits best after she is born.

I like Ella, but think its sooo trendy right now. Still pretty, though.

I like Amelie. So feminine, very new & different, yet not weird.

Good luck!

Tricia said...[Reply to comment]

They're all beautiful names, so you can't really go wrong no matter which one you chose. I really like Amelie. It's so French and pretty. I actually considered that name when I had my daughter. I also love the name Ella. Maybe you could have one as a first name and one as the middle? :)

oh, this is fun!! I love names. And, you know I love "Ella" but I agree it is getting way too popular;) When I chose her name there wasn't an Ella out there;) I did the same thing with our first dog, Kelsey- named her after a friend's last name and then the next thing I knew they were everywhere!!
I like Amelie- but I grew up with a mother who's name is spelled Janice, but it is pronounce Jan-eece. She always had to correct people, or maybe my grandmother should have chosen another spelling;)
So, I pick Violet! I like the way it sounds and feels- old world yet feminine!
Can't wait to hear what y'all pick! Hope you are feeling well!

I vote for Amelie! I'm a little impartial to that name since my 4 year-old's name is Amelia and it's so pretty. Violet is beautiful, so that is my second choice. Ella is a nice name, but is too popular these days.

Good luck! You are brave asking for people's opinions!

I love all three, but I think my vote goes to french, so romantic, pretty and unique (for Alberta!) One of my best friends has an Ella and an old boyfriend just had his first granddaughter and yes, it's Ella...sooo popular these days. And no wonder, as it's a gorgeous name. I can see a little Amelie in her lovely new nursery!
I can't help myself, have to throw out two of my current favorites, which I think are lovely and quite unique but not 'odd'. 'Aven' and 'Denieve' of luck with the rest of your pregnancy!
