This is what happens when a thrift store lovin' Mom comes to visit: She brings me great loot!

My Mom made the 12 hour drive from Vancouver to visit for the week. She brought along many goodies that she's been collecting for the past year since I moved away. Here's what she found:

Loads of silver plate. Trays, little cups, trinkets....

some milk glass and a pastoral painting (going in today for reframing along with the next picture)

 

A beloved original pencil drawing that was my Grandmother's...

A couple of chairs which will be sanded and recovered this week, some frames and french pictures..

And finally, some small antlers

 

 

I am going to have fun finding homes for all these treasures! Have a wonderful Monday. We`re off to do some more treasure hunting-yipee!

 

Harvest Urn

I love my door. I really do.

What I don't love about it, however, is that I really can't hang a wreath on it. The window ledge prevents me from placing the wreath where one normally would, and if I position it below the window, it looks, well, low.

It is because of my wreath dilemma that my urn, beside my door, needs to get extra dolled up so no one even notices my wreath issues.

Yesterday I went shopping in hopes of finding winter kale and winter pansies to stuff my urn full, but I found something else instead.

I filled the urn full of harvest inspired goodness, even with a nod to the upcoming spooky holiday, courtesy of some orange glittered bling.

Last year I did a topiary with heirloom pumpkins, and while lovely, this year I wanted something a little different.

In October, I'll slowly add in some more spook to the front porch, but for now, it is keeping pace with the crisp nights and yellowing leaves.

Woodland Harvest

Woodland Harvest Transferware


I have been developing quite a fondness for transferware. I started out with blue and white, and have since found a pretty set of red and white (perfect for Christmas!) and most recently, brown.

I was super excited when I saw this set at Home Sense: Woodland Harvest by The Victorian English Pottery, Est 1819 by Edward Challinor.

Love the animal motif with the acorn and oak leaf borders.  Perfect for fall and Thanksgiving.

As you may recall, I am in the very preliminary stage of planning my kitchen facelift.  One feature I do love in my kitchen is the upper glass cabinets. While I initially used them for storage, with my Mom's help, we decided to pretty them up with transferware, silver, and odds and ends. 

The newest pattern looks very seasonal in here-my first touch of fall decorating.

{It is so difficult getting decent pictures of these cabinets.  A photographer, I am not!}

You can see the sample of beadboard wallpaper in the back of one of these cabinets.  I will be putting it on the back and painting all the interiors white (Marble white by Benjamin Moore, which is actually more of a warm white/cream).  Also, the cupboards are going to be painted, and new hardware put on. I'm not sure when this will happen, as we have other, more pressing projects, but I hope it's soon!

The Versatile Tiered Stand

When I spotted my tiered stand at an adorable shop, I knew instantly that I wanted to buy it.  However, when I got it home, I wasn't sure what to put on it. 

For the fall and Christmas seasons, the answer came easily:

It was the inbetween seasons that stumped me, until I saw this from Dear Lillie.


It was the inspiration I needed for my stand.  Here it is now:

I incorporated some dried hydrangeas, vintage silver, faux pears and blue and white china:
